A very warm welcome back to all parents and children.  The children were hugely enthusiastic to the start of this term and our WW1 theme.  Our classroom is already looking wonderful and the area outside is decorated to look like a WW1 trench, so the children are immersed before they even start their day!  You will all know about the Tiger Moth fly past which was a really stunning start!

This term we are lucky to have Mrs Holton and Mrs Stacey as Classroom Assistants, both of whom work all mornings.  They are both with us to support both me and the children.

In Maths this term we are already learning Place Value reaching numbers up to a million.  We will be covering Addition and Subtraction, Multiplication and Division, Statistics and at the end of term we will be learning about Area and Perimeter.  The emphasis in Maths is to learn a variety of different methods as well as showing Maths Mastery through applying their knowledge when problem solving and giving reasoned answers.

In English we are focussing our reading and writing around the period of WW1 and the children have already started to learn to use the features when writing a diary.  They will write Historical Stories and Newspaper Reports, later on in the term.

Your child will be getting weekly homework, which will help inform you of what is going on in class, as I will often give work to support their learning.  I have high expectations of the children in Year 5 and know that they will reach their goals with our joint support.

Please always ask if you need anything clarifying.

I am sure we will have a wonderful, fulfilling, exciting term ahead.

We aspire to keep our children safe, at school and online...
