Welcome to Field Maples Class...

In Field Maples class you will find our years 2 and 3 children - happy and working hard.  In the Spring term the class theme is ‘Let’s go into the Woods’.  The children will be learning about the geography of the UK with a specific focus on a local study – making use of our school wooded area, also learning how to use grid references, keys and compass directions for map reading.  They will find out about animals and their habitats – learning about the food chains and sources of food and will learn how to design and build their own ‘Bug Hotel’ in Design and Technology.  In Art the children will be learning about the natural sculpture of the incredible artist Andy Goldsworthy.

English

In year 2 and 3 we continue to develop children's phonic knowledge through reading and spelling.  In year 2 and 3 we further develop the love of reading through using individual colour banded reading books, guided reading using Book Talk and VIPERS and listening to high quality texts read by adults every day.

Here are some of the key texts we will be using:

Maths

We will start the new school year by looking at number and place value.  Please take a look at the maths knowledge organisers below which will help you support your child at home with their learning.  Please take time to support your child in learning the meaning of the key vocabulary.
